It is said that April showers bring May flowers. So what do May flowers bring? Pollen, which attracts bees and attacks the sinuses , and nectar which feeds the butterflies, emblematic of the welcome change in seasons. Well, two ways—temperature and length of day, which increases as the weather gets warmer, says Dr. According to Robbins, the first butterflies of the season came out in Washington in the middle of March, during the few warm days we had that month.

I'm not the biggest science lover out there, but I enjoyed this museum. My favorite part was the butterfly pavilion. You go into a room literally full of butterflies. You see them in cocoons, flying, resting etc.
There are all sorts of butterflies from around the world. Have your camera read and be prepared to learn something new! Another exhibit I found interesting wa sabout forensics and how they are used to solve crimes, determine when or where or how someone died etc. It was really interesting. Very difficult to see the exhibits.
We left. The Art museum is much better planned and easier to navigate. Too bad that many of the exhibits were closed. Loved seeing what one could easily begin to think of as sci-fi up close and personal and how real it all was and is!
We stopped here just for the Butterfly exhibit. There is an extra fee, but it was worth it if you love butterflies. There is also a small butterfly garden outside with a helpful docent. Nice stop for about an hour. I am like a kid in a candy store while I am there! It has a little bit of everything to spark your attention! A must see!
Yes, it's beautifulk and has a fascinating history, but make sure you see much more than the Hope Diamond. The museum had a a fascinating exhibit about the human genome while we were there, with real scientists in the room to interact with the public and the exhibit itself.

Beautifully maintained, gorgeous colors. Lots of butterflies! Nice shade on a warm day. Not as crowded as the other Smithsonian properties.
I'm glad that the Smithsonian has several gardens located near its museums and galleries. Though most of them are small like this garden, they provide respite and change of sceneries for the visitors who might get bored visiting one museum after another in Washington, DC When we went the garden was not blooming, it was a little dull.
There is a relaxing area to sit down and take a breather. There is a conservatory right next door that you can walk through as well. Must visit! It is beautiful and very tastefully laid out. It also has several camellia flower plants in different colors.

To the best of my knowledge, there There were people lined up and disappointed as they were turned away Had been there many times. On my last visit during our museum conference in DC, I noticed all different flowers and trees. It is a must see garden specially on a nice spring or summer day. You will love it! And as a special exhibit there is a charge but if you like butterflies as my grandchildren do this is a real find. Sort of walking with butterflies.
Lots of fun and educational. Don't know how long it will be around so head out now. Whilst the Smithsonian museums are all free, certain exhibits, such as this one, are not free.
