By Anna Hodgekiss. A bride-to-be found collapsed in a sunbed shop died of heart failure not linked to injecting herself with banned tanning jabs, an inquest jury ruled today. Jenna Vickers, 26, had apparently been taking the injections for weeks before being found unconscious in the cubicle of the TanTastic sunbed shop in her home town of Bolton, Lancashire, last September.

A hearing into her death was told that fair-skinned Miss Vickers was 'obsessed' with having a tan and was a regular at a tanning salon. Jenna Vickers with mother Shirley Mather collapsed and died in a tanning salon.

An inquest ruled today she died from heart failure. But a pathologist told the inquest into her death that while medical research into Melanotan 2 was limited, in his opinion, it had nothing to do with her death. Miss Vickers had struggled with her weight and was 25 stone at the time of her death. A jury concluded she died from natural causes and the cause of her death was acute cardiac failure due to her obesity. A report by toxicologist Julie Evans, read to the inquest, said there has not been enough scientific research done yet to reach any conclusions about whether or not Melanotan 2 is a danger or not to humans, but it has not been linked to any fatal incident.

The effects of Melanotan on the body was 'beyond the scope' of current testing - so it was impossible to tell what effect it had on Miss Vickers, the jury were told. Dr Waugh said Miss Vickers was obese, with a body mass index of 58, with the normal range between 21 and Most of her organs were also enlarged, especially her heart, and she was susceptible to dying suddenly. A hearing into her death was told that fair-skinned Jenna was 'obsessed' with having a tan and was a regular at a tanning salon.

He told the jury: 'It remains that there is insufficient information in respect of Melanotan 2 to allow any realistic assessment of its significance in the death of Jenna. The literature is not there or substantiates a causal link to sudden death. The person running that website was given a caution and the site closed down.

Weeks before, Miss Vickers had tweeted: 'Getting a lovely tan now And I've had no side effects : Very happy Bunny. Jenna with boyfriend Bryan Watson had been taking unregulated injections of 'melanotan', a synthetic hormone which encourages the production of melanin, the pigment which turns the skin brown when exposed to sunlight.

It is thought Miss Vickers bought the tanning drug online and her inquest comes just days after a cornoner ruled that medical student Sarah Houston died after taking the drug DNP she had bought online. The inquest today heard that Miss Vickers had gone for her regular sunbed session at the Tantastic salon near her home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, when she was found collapsed in September last year.

Melanotan injections have been nicknamed the 'barbie drug' for their cosmetic appeal among beauty-conscious women. They come in two forms - melanotan I and melanotan II. They both work by increasing the levels of melanin, a dark pigment that provides protection against the sun.

Having more levels of melanin gives a darker more tanned appearance when exposed to sun, either natural or artificial. Both manmade drugs have undergone some limited clinical trials with some positive results for protecting against UV damage.

There are large numbers of websites selling the products and they have become a craze among tan obsessives, bodybuilders and even some men who take them for their sexual side-effects. However, health experts have made repeated warnings that products on the market are unlicensed and can have severe side-effects, ranging from nausea to headaches and other 'potentially dangerous' unknown outcomes.

The unlicensed drug is self injected, which means that there are serious needle safety issues to consider too. Today her mother, Shirley Mather, told the strong jury hearing the inquest that her daughter was a bright and bubbly person and generally happy but she had struggled with her weight. She had dieted occasionally and put weight on in the period before her death, when she weighed around 25 stones.

Mrs Mather said: 'I was always worried about her weight. She would go on a diet and lose quite a bit and then put it back on. She weighed around 18 stone. She probably went on twice a week. She had probably been going on for about three months, twice a week.

Mrs Mather said she learnt about her daughter taking the tanning injections around three weeks before her death. I have known her to faint. On September 3, they had made arrangements to meet and go shopping together.

A pathologist told the inquest into her death that while medical research into Melanotan 2 was limited, in his opinion, it had nothing to do with her death. Mrs Mather said: 'Her usual time was about minutes at the most. I expected to be waiting about 20 minutes for her and stayed in the car. She seemed well. She was very bubbly and was not complaining of any headaches. She went in about 9. At She said when she walked in to the salon, she knew something wasn't right.

Salon manager Lisa Rourke had become concerned 10 minutes after the minute tanning session had stopped and had tried to get into the booth, but Miss Vickers had collapsed against the door having got out of the upright tanning bed.

He said that he believed her death was caused by heart failure brought about by her weight. Mrs Mather said: 'I ran in and saw her slumped on the floor. I just knew something was wrong. I shouted her name and I saw her lips were all purple. Miss Vickers' fiance, Brian Watson, confirmed she had never fainted whilst with him, but had complained of frequent headaches.

She had bought a couple of viles in the past couple of months. She would inject every two or three days. We would normally take the dogs out and have tea and then settle down to watch TV. She would normally do it inject before she went to bed.

Miss Vickers' mother Shirley Mather said her daughter was 'bright and full of potential with lots of friends and was outgoing'. It must have been between 7. She was sitting on the couch and she just grabbed her chest and said "ow".

I thought it was indigestion. The pain must have been quite bad. I had taken one and they sting. She would say it was stinging her. Graham Olive, a health and safety inspector for Bolton Council, said he had checked the tube stand-up tanning cabinet and found it was in good working order with no faults. He said customers buying multiple sessions at Tantastic were given a card asking about skin type and recording their exposure to sunbeds.

But Miss Wilson-Vickers bought her sessions individually so did not have the same card and there were no records kept at the shop showing her being asked about her use or medication she was taking. The night before she died, she complained of chest pain but dismissed it as indigestion. Mr Olive said she may have been asked about this verbally but it was not recorded. Dwayne Rutty, a forensic analyst with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, said after Miss Wilson-Vickers' death he had been asked to analyse two substances recovered during the police investigation into the matter, one in solid and one in liquid form, and both were found to be Melanotan 2.

This afternoon, the inquest heard that Miss Vickers' weight may have played a key role in her death. Her heart was enlarged and weighed g compared to the normal weight of g. The pathologist said that her heart was enlarged and that her coronary artery was narrowed. P athologist Dr Patrick Waugh said that the most likely cause of Jenna Vickers' death was her weight.

He said: 'She had narrowing if the coronary artery by 15 per cent due to fatty deposits which reduce the blood flow to the heart. This was due to her obesity. Anyone who has an enlarged heart is susceptible to dying suddenly and she also had narrowing of the coronary artery. That might have been the first evidence that she was having a heart attack. Sometimes it comes and then comes back, they are angina type pains. The inquest heard that Melanotan II is not a typical drug and would not be detected as part of toxicology tests and was not possibly to determine if she used the compound prior to death.

Dr Waugh said: 'There is not a reported case of any fatalities of this drug, there are reports of people being unwell but they could be potentially using other things. There is no evidence in the literacy to support it having harmful effects. I could not say that it was linked to her death. I would say it has nothing to do with her death. He also ruled out positional asphyxia and that she had not got wedged in the booth impeding her ability to breathe as she was able to be moved.

He added: 'In my opinion I would say that the cause of death was acute cardiac failure due to obesity. Obesity caused her heart to get larger and narrowing of the arteries triggered a failure.

The tanning bed scene was based on four urban legends. One is the legend of a bride-to-be, in some versions a sorority girl, who wanted the perfect tan but ended up cooking her insides by over-using tanning beds. The second and third legends involve the Ohio Players 's hit song "Love Rollercoaster", which plays during the tanning scene.

One of the legends goes that the scream heard between the first and second verses of the song is that of a woman being murdered while the song was being recorded.

The other goes that the scream is that of the woman who modeled for the album cover art, because her flesh was torn off when the acrylic substance ladled over her naked body to make it look like she was dripping with honey was clumsily removed by crew members. The fourth urban legend is the one of the newlywed bride playing a game of hide-and-seek on her wedding day, who dies when the trunk she hides in locks with her inside. In some versions of the legend, something falls on the trunk, preventing the bride from being able to open it from the inside, much like the way the shelf fell onto the tanning beds, jamming them closed.

Wendy and Kimberly were originally meant to be cousins. The plan was that Wendy would be in the subway with her cousin and her boyfriend before she ran into Kevin and Julie. The presence of Kimberly and Officer Burke would make sense considering that Death's plan would reach its end with all the survivors dying. The two actors were not available for the reshoots and therefore the scene was staged with Wendy's roommate and her boyfriend instead.

Originally, the character Frankie Cheeks was not going to die. Rather than being fatally struck from the back of the head by a spinning engine propeller as shown in the final film, he looks at his rear-view mirrors and narrowly escapes his supposed death himself with only a broken neck. He is then later arrested by police and is charged for indecent exposure, due to the police seeing his camera having photos of "too revealing" girls.

Depending on the "Choose Their Fate" feature, either Ashley or Ashlyn get a slightly worse death than the other. In the original scene where they are both burned, Ashlyn gets the worse death as Ashley inadvertently breaks the glass on her tanning bed due to struggling and thus stops the heat. But Ashlyn's bed continues to pump out heat, scorching her worse than Ashley. In the alternate scene, Ashlyn simply gets knocked out by the shelf whereas Ashley is trapped and burned in addition to being electrocuted later on.

A Camaro owned by Evan Lewis, a victim in Final Destination 2 rolled down a hill and crashed into the front of the store. The two attempted to escape from the rear only to meet their fate at the hands of a woodchipper. Kimberly's coat got caught, Thomas attempted to save her; both were pulled into the woodchipper. The woodchipper was owned by Roger Gibbons whose son died at the end of "Final Destination 2".

In the novel, during the premonition, Ian doesn't die from the fall itself, but rather from succumbing to his injuries. It can be assumed Erin succumbed to hers shortly after, therefore placing her after Ian on Death's list.

It is common for viewers to believe that Frankie's camera is the primary source for the roller coaster's crash. The main cause is a leak in the hydraulics, which started before his camera wrapped around part of the roller coaster's track. Therefore, his camera only aided in rupturing the hydraulics further, which in consequence only contributed to the deaths of Lewis, Ian, Erin, Perry, and Julie because their harnesses malfunctioned. They weren't on the ride when it crashed in reality, therefore making Frankie's presence insignificant to the crash and deaths.

At around 16 min, it can be briefly seen that the tracks are indeed broken, as Wendy claimed. Also, a "popping" sound is heard, indicating that a portion of the track has been broken, which caused the wheels on the left side to derail.

This ultimately killed Jason, Carrie, and the other five victims, who were the only ones on the ride. Their deaths are shown as the roller coaster hit a sharp curve, throwing it off the tracks, just like in Wendy's premonition.

Therefore, Frankie's camera had no effect in the amount of time it would take for the roller coaster to crash. The tracks still would have broken in the same place, and still were the cause of the actual derailment, not the camera. The way Erin held up her hand to her face when the nails penetrated her head is the same as the way she held her hand up in the photo while covering her face from the flash. Ashley and Ashlyn the two girls killed in the tanning beds have "Ash" as shortened versions of their name.

They burn in the beds, and ash is created when a body is burned. Body Count: The nail gun discharged a total of 13 nails into Erin's head. The sign, banners, and fence posts all have something to do with Ian's death. All of them are shaped as irregular pentagons a geometrical shape with five points and sides. The longer point of all these objects are pointing down, towards Ian. The giant sign that crushed Ian was pointing down at him, similar to the banners from Wendy's photo and the fence posts at the store.

Additionally, just before Ian was crushed, he looks up at the sign the same way he did when the fence posts nearly impaled him. In his picture, Ian recoiled at the camera's flash, just like Kevin did in his own picture. Both their deaths in real life involved fireworks blasting at them at point-blank range.

The picture shows the word "KILL" and looks like it's made of wood. The planks that almost killed Ian were also made of wood. The forklift that assists in Erin's death is called Unit , which may be a reference to Flight and the diner Miro This is the first film in the series to have all of the main characters die in the same film that they're introduced in. After the roller coaster disaster, Ian is seen complaining to Erin about his last name also being the town's name McKinley, Pennsylvania , writing "Ian" over the school's name, which is also McKinley.

Coincidentally, the sign that crushes him also has "McKinley" written on it, only this time, Ian is below his own name. Wendy takes a picture of Jason in front of the roller coaster at the moment one of the roller coaster cars descends the rails at high speed. The photo makes it look like the cars are heading down to the ground, about to crash. They are also directed toward Jason, hinting at his death in the disaster. Edit page. New bride killed by sunbed | UK | News | infoawl.com

Last night her grieving mother called on the Government to introduce a total ban on sunbeds to prevent other families going through the same ordeal. And what was meant to be the happiest time of her life turned to tragedy when the growth later turned out to be a malignant melanoma caused by sunbed use. Louise, of Dore, Sheffield, eventually died from the cancer, which had spread to her lymph glands, lungs and brain.

Campaigners believe the move, announced in the journal Lancet Oncology, will increase pressure for tighter regulation of sunbed use. In the last 30 years, rates of skin cancer have more than quadrupled, from 3. The Sunbed Association maintains there is no proven link between the responsible use of sunbeds and skin cancer.

But that is not something Mrs Reeves is willing to accept. When her father James and I lived in Spain she would come and visit, but she always brought a wide-brimmed hat and used factor 50 suncream. Mrs Reeves said she always smiles when she thinks of the children Louise and husband Frazer had planned to have. Everything you could want. They had such plans, but they never got a chance to fulfil them.
