Bought this riding mower in for our South Texas waterfront property. WE Have kept up with regular maintenance and keeping it clean after each use; minimal care. It's a 46" Murray and it has been a workhorse. I'm thinking I will probably need a new one pretty soon and if I can find the same one I have now, I will buy it.

Have had to replace the battery and some tires since mesquite tree branches are hard on tires. Other than that, this has been a great riding mower. I bought a Murray 21" push lawn mower from Walmart on May 6, Used it 3 times and went to use for the fourth time and it will not start. When you pull, it sounds like something is grinding in the motor. Emailed Murray and they want to say issues with fuel and it's not covered under warranty.

Fuel issues wouldn't be causing the motor to grind when pulling to start. Such a waste of money!!! I bought my latest one and it was used about 10 years ago and it's still running fine. Other than changing the main belt a couple times and a battery or two over the years, it's a good little tractor.

The one I had before I owned for about 13 years and it worked fine too and I was mowing 2. This newer one model has the Briggs motor and that's a plus. They're smaller and lighter weight than the big name brands, but I also take care of what I own. One must remove the air cleaner to spray starting fluid to get it started. Mind blowing stupidity on the part of modern day companies.

The Murray mowers were sold by Walmart. They were cheap, relatively easy to maintain and durable. Mine is about 15 years old. It has been to see the walrus. For more information about reviews on ConsumerAffairs. It has been flawless besides normal maintenance. This lawn mower is totally unsafe and should be recalled. The gas cap will not stay on the gas tank and when it comes off gas splashes out on the hot mower.

I have run over 3 three gas caps since I've had it and had to replace them so I could use the mower. The gas cap setup needs to be redesigned to a screw - on gas cap, not a twist and lock, which it doesn't do. It was hard to start because it was like the engine or blades were too tight to pull the pull start, when it finally started it ran about five minutes and then completely froze up, where the pull start was stuck and would NOT budge, no give and lawnmower was stalled.

I would not recommend their lawnmowers. Also, it smelled like it had had gas in the tank recently, before I put gas in the tank, so may have been a reboxed resealed one, not sure. Here is the codes from the box it was in, maybe someone else had it before and they may be reading this. Brand Murray Serial No. Customer Catalog No. I hope this prevents someone from going through the refund fun, just don't buy one because you will have to return it, unless you want a lawn ornament.

I bought one of these Murray 21in push mower last spring. I had to return it because it would not start. They gave me another one. I used it for a couple more times.

I have a small enclosed area where I keep my dogs. I called them because this one will not start. They're telling me that it's a carburetor issue. There was no gas left in it and they want me to haul it around to again to an authorized dealer. You didn't even answer the phone and I'm not quite sure if they exist. The people are extremely rude when you call.

Not very helpful and obviously there's an issue if you have two more hours. I have done the same thing. He told me it was the carburetor or either he has x-ray vision or knows there's an issue with the mower. Funny I didn't have any problems starting my John Deere this year. Buyer beware. Do not buy this product. It is junk and they do not stand behind it and they are rude. My husband bought a Murray lawn mower from Walmart about 4 yrs ago.

He mowed with it twice, and we do not have a large yard. Third time it refused to even start. After talking to the lady in that dept. As they should've. It ran a few more times, another trip to repair. After that, what was the use? Got another brand at another dealer. Never again! Does yours have the safety feature that it will not start if you are not on the mower or it will stop if you get off while it is running? All the switches seem to be working. Sometimes is the safety switch is not sending the signal to start or the starter solenoid is bad. Also check to see if there is any debris on your spark plug. It happened to ours years ago.

Sometimes is the safety switch is not sending the signal to start or the starter solenoid is bad. Let me know if that works. It has a new battery and solenoid? Check the fuse under the seat for the safety switch that makes the mower cut off if you get off the seat I think mine was a blue fuse.

I have model XBA. It has a new battery, but won't turn over and there is no clicking? What could be the problem? By Cathy from Starke, FL. I have a Murray mower, model The battery is dead and my wife hooked up the jumper cables in reverse polarity. The starter turned over for a second and when I switched cables I get nothing. Here is the link to help you fix it: www. Reversing the cables and starting the mower has damaged your starter now. You will need to fix the starter on your mower and also change your battery. I think you were lucky if this didn't damage anything else on the mower.

It sounds like it has only damaged your starter and battery. I have replaced one of the coils because of no spark, rebuilt the carbs, and replaced all the fuel lines. Advertisement I now have spark, compression, and fuel, but it still won't start. Any help will be appreciated. Also I was mowing the yard when it shutdown. I have a Murray mower model 13ajc and I have replaced the starter motor, fuses, relay switch, spark plug, battery, and filter and my lawn mower only makes a clicking sound when I turn the key.

What do you think could be the problem? I picked up grass clippings and it was running well. I turned it off and took my leaf blower and blew off the grass. When I tried to start it, the engine cranked, but would not start. I checked and found that I was not getting a spark to the plugs. I tried several things and the engine would crank, but not start. Then the engine would not crank any more.

The battery is good and the starter is good. I replaced the ignition switch. I could not find a broken or lose wire. All the switches seem to be working. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them.

I am at a loss on what to do. You can check your spark plug to make sure it isnt dirty or loose. Also check to see if there is any debris on your spark plug. Replace your spark plug and make sure it is tight.

Advertisement Also check your fuel line and make sure the fuel is reaching your engine. You can try tapping the side of your carburetor to make sure the fuel is getting in.

My son says it can sometimes be the solenoid. Check out this video and also check answers from past postings with this problem from ThriftyFun. If the battery and the spark plugs are good, the next thing to check is the solenoid.

I have an old Murray model X8A, 30" cut with a While changing the blade on the mower I had it tilted to the side with a jack and it fell on its side and some of the oil came out of the side. I cleaned it up and took off the carb and cleaned it and replaced the gasket and gas tubes.

I checked the spark plug and fuses and they are all good, as well as the battery. When I go to start it, it gives me a crank and then it stops. I go to start it again and it gives me like a half crank and then nothing. After letting it sit for about 10 minutes I try again with the same results. Advertisement Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I have a 30" Murray 13AC26DJ rear lawnmower that will not start or even make a sound when trying to start. First carefully make sure you have no nests in the mower gumming up the works. These can cause havoc with mowers If it is clean, oiled and gassed up, call the company for trouble shooting tips: murray. Let us know what you find! I have a Murray It will start with the deck off, but won't with it on. What can be the problem? Thanks in advance. May have a neutral safety switch.

You might have to reference or download the manual. Someone with the same problem as you on a mowing site changed out their magneto coil and their problem was solved.

Here are the directions: First off, there was a recall on those mowers due to leaking gas tank. For that check check on here. Now lets assume this got fixed;- You need at least three things for the mower to start. Fuel, air, and a spark.

Check for gas, clogged filters and collapsed lines. Check your carburetor, make sure your float is working right and that your needle valve is clean. Check all the lines for leaks and proper connection. If you are sure you do not have spark, then disconnect the Shut Off Wire at the Control Bracket and then check for spark at the Plug.

If there is still no spark at the Plug, disconnect the Shut Off Wire at the Coil and check for spark. The engine will turn over with a bad safety switch but will not fire. There should also be a blade safety switch, that you do not want to forget to check as well as the seat safety switch. To really isolate what is going on, I would disconnect the safety switches, bridge the wires. That way, you should be left with just the ignition circuit.

If you now get spark, you know that it is one of the safety switches. Replace the safety switch. Check the electrical diagram and see if that will help you further along. Good Luck and let us know how it is going. I have a Murray riding lawn mower with a 12hp Tecumseh engine. The engine cranks just fine, I have spark after replacing the coil and plug, I also have fuel after cleaning the carb and the tank and cleaning the fuel filter.

My only thought after that is compression, but there is a good amount of air coming out of the muffler when the exhaust stroke comes around. But it just wont start, is there any way to time those engines or anything or what am I missing? Is there a fuse under the seat that would keep it from starting? The battery is good, as is the solenoid, and starter. My riding lawn mower, a Murray model x92, was running just fine and suddenly while mowing one day just stopped and won't start.

I replaced the battery since it wouldn't charge up thinking this was the issue, but no luck. I tested the new battery and it's holding its charge at 12 volts. However, I am getting no volts on any of the wires on the solenoid when I turn the key. I do get a whine like the mower is trying to turn over. I don't know if this means if a safety switch is bad or the entire ignition is bad or I need a new solenoid.
